Tracy Stegman
Administrative Assistant
Tracy Stegman became the administrative assistant for the Center for Literacy Education in February 2024. She serves as the primary contact person for the Center and performs a variety of duties including administrative functions, program support, and grants management. Tracy attended Wake Forest University for her undergraduate degree and also served as Licensure Officer for the Department of Education from 2009-2018.
Kathryn Pegram

Visiting Lecturer, Department of Education
Kathryn Pegram is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Education with a staff appointment in the Center for Literacy Education. Kathryn holds a Wake Forest degree in mathematics and a double minor in secondary education and political science as well as a masters degree in Education Policy and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Kathryn has spent her career working in K-12 public charter schools as a mathematics teacher, assistant principal, principal, and consultant. Now, as a PhD student at UNC Greensboro, she researches and writes on topics related to education policy, school reform, critical pedagogy, democratic teaching, community building and belonging.
Kathy Wilheit
Literacy Specialist
Teacher Professional Learning Program Assistant
Kathy Wilheit is a part-time Literacy Specialist and Teacher Professional Learning Program Assistant for the Center for Literacy Education. She also serves as an instructional assistant and adjunct lecturer in the Department of Education. She has an undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, a MAT from UNC-Charlotte, and holds her National Boards in Teaching English as a New Language. She retired from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools after 29 years and served in variety of roles. She taught Spanish, English as a Second Language, served as a school-based instructional facilitator, and worked as a district coach twice, once as K-12 ESL Lead Teacher and once as an Elementary English Language Arts Coach.
