Who Writes, Who Learns? Evidence from L2 Writing Development under AI Conditions – February 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM (Greene Hall, Room 239)
This talk, hosted by the Wake Forest University Department of German and Russian, addresses a central gap in research on AI and writing: the lack of developmental evidence. Presenting a within-learner comparison of AI-assisted and human-only L2 writing, it shows that, while AI alters the writing process, it does not lead to faster writing development, raising important questions for how (L2) writing is taught and assessed.
Bio: Dr. Sandra McGury is an applied linguist whose research examines language use and development in technologically mediated, globalized contexts. Her work brings together learning under AI conditions, L2 acquisition, and virtual exchange, with a focus on learner development, pedagogy, and assessment.
