Dr. Miller and Students in the Puedo Leer Program at Mineral Springs

The Puedo Leer Program, directed by Wake Forest Professor Lauren Miller, provides weekly tutoring for Spanish-speaking students at Mineral Springs Elementary. In this program, students are given the opportunity to develop their literacy skills in their home language, Spanish. Students are exposed to Spanish children’s music and rhymes, academic vocabulary in Spanish, Spanish phonics, and age-appropriate Spanish-language books. This program aims to help children maintain their Spanish, develop academic Spanish, strengthen overall literacy skills in both of their languages, and promote connections between the school and Hispanic families. Classes are run by Wake Forest undergraduate students interested in teaching, mentorship, and using their Spanish.
