Center for Literacy Education Sponsoring Teacher Professional Development through WFU Lifelong Learning Program
The Center for Literacy Education is sponsoring a new teacher professional development series as part of the Lifelong Learning Program in the Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
The Lifelong Learning Program offers short personal enrichment courses taught by Wake Forest University faculty and community experts. Courses sponsored by the Center for Literacy Education are non-credit bearing and focused on meaningful professional development around topics and areas in literacy education designed specifically for K-12 teachers and administrators.
The first course will be “Civil Discourse in Civic Literacy” and will be taught by Cris Wiley (’03, ’04), an adjunct professor in the Department of Education, civics teacher at RJ Reynolds High School, and 2024-2025 Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Teacher of the Year. The course is open to all K-12 educators.
The 12-hour course will run from Friday, May 30, 2025, through Wednesday, June 11, 2025 (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), 1:00 – 3:00 pm. This is an in-person course and will take place at Wake Forest University’s Brookstown campus. Learn more and register here. Content credit is pre-approved for educators in WS/FCS through a direct link via KickUp. Educators in other districts will receive a certificate of completion and are encouraged to inquire with their schools or districts about CEUs before signing up for the course.
Upcoming courses include topics such as information and media literacy and writing across the curriculum. Scholarships are available for Wake Forest alumni and K-12 teachers and administrators in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools for designated courses thanks to the generous contributions of supportive donors.
